Entry Geo Fence
An entry GeoFence is the opposite of the exit GeoFence in essence it provides a
warning you are nearing a location. In essence the function is a warning of
pending arrival or failure to arrive at a target address.
Normal Entry
The GeoFence is set up as a circle around a fixed point normally a delivery
address or a way point on a route. The breach of the GeoFence provides warning
of arrival.
The normal use is for transport companies to warn the delivery location to
prepare the docking bay to minimise
delays in unloading. It could also be a
warning for arrival to pick up a load.
Time of Entry GeoFence Failure
The second method is a failure to breach an Entry GeoFence by a specific time.
This means the vehicle is behind schedule. In this case a target address is
defined with an arrival time. If the vehicle is outside the entry GeoFence at
the time indicated the vehicle is considered late and a GeoFence alarm will be
set . This alarm is a Late Arrival GeoFence Alarm.
Rolling GeoFence
The final GeoFence can be described as a rolling GeoFence or the GeoFence used
to protect a vehicle for off route movement.
The use of this type of GeoFence concerns moving vehicles generally with high
value loads. Typically a vehicle carrying Semi-conductor chips will be valued
in the £1.000,000 plus per load, similarly alcohol or cigarettes all will in
the region of £1,000,000 per load thus there is a need to ensure the vehicle
travels the road specified and gets to its destination.
This type of GeoFence operates on the principle of a series of GeoFences on a
route with each GeoFence overlapping the previous one to ensure the alarms is
not set off if the vehicle stays on route.
Each circle represents the limits of the off route acceptable
to the customer. In most cases this will be a 2km variation form the route.
The route needs to be defined very accurately beforehand and the GeoFence built
around the route. These routes will normally be pre defined in great detail for
the driver. They will involve main roads.
The
Rolling GeoFence provides an alarm based on entry to the GeoFence and to alarm
if the time is reached without a GeoFence
breach thus ensuring the vehicle was last on
route and its late for the next check point.
Intermediate Stage Rolling Geo-Fence
Program less complex GeoFences for specific
time deliveries. Specified GeoFences ensure
that the vehicle is accurately arriving at
multiple destinations during the journey
within the said specific time.
In the
diagram above, the conditions must be at a tolerance set up in the timing
to deal with road variations but this time period cannot be long see the later
note concerning distance.
This has the specific benefit of linking location to
time-of-occurence in a manner beloved
of the police systems and provides a mechanism which is acceptable to all.
The ideal is to be able to provide a rolling geo-fence but times or the
alternative noted above.

In most cases the above is acceptable
because the vehicle is still being tracked.
Acquiring police support to deal with a problem in real time
usually takes longer than the reporting periods in question.
Providing additional vehicle tracking
information to the police will increase the
probability of re-acquiring the vehicle
faster.
